Energy and Resources

Constant pressure from legislation, economic policy and dwindling resources has pushed this to the top of most people's development agendas. Eligible businesses will be able to access funding to have an audit prepared for their current position and to access potential areas of savings.

Actions: Increasing capacity and ability to recycle trade waste in rural areas and the assessment and reduction of a business’s carbon footprint, in the form of a green audit.

Beneficiaries:Any business that wants to address its recycling/carbon balance in a rural location.

Recycling of waste

Adding value to waste

Carbon audit
Evidence:Carbon density (TMF 2008) SWOT:Need to ensure low carbon output from projects
Energy and water use
Evidence: Local areas agreements.
The Merton rule
SWOT: Increasing costs of fuel and energy.

A Resource Audit would typically cover:

  • Water Saving Opportunities
  • Energy Saving Opportunities by using more Energy efficient equipment
  • Options for renewable Energy
  • ISO 14001 is also covered

Once completed funding of up to 40% or £8000 (whichever is the lesser) is available to address item(s) that could improve the businesses resource and energy use. The minimum grant level is £2k for a £5k project, Eligible expenditure is an invoice supported by a cheque of bank transfer with evidence of defrayment from a bank statement. CASH PAYMENTS are ineligible items of expenditure.

The project has to demonstrates additional environmental benefit or turnover Gross Value Added (GVA) this a measure of a business that is made up of wage costs, depreciation, interest payments and profit.

Funding is only available to trading enteritis (sole traders, partnerships, Limited companies, social enterprises, charities and cooperatives).
